The Wind in the Willows is a classic of children's literature by Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. Alternately slow moving and fast paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animal characters in a pastoral version of England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie and celebrated for its evocation of the nature of the Thames valley.

In an idyllic spot along a flowing river in a pastoral area of England there lived for the most part a a harmonious community of animals. There is, however, a jaunty scamp known as Mr. Toad of Toad Hall. His antics are both a scandal and a beguilement to the other riverland creatures. Mr. Toad' s adventures drive the story's narrative producing most of the action, laughter and suspense. The author has produced a story that is nearly an ode to the beauties of rural England with his masterful and lyrical use of the English language. But Mr. Toad so exuberant, so impulsive, so conceited yet at times so penitent is certainly the fascination that will keep you reading.Product details

The Wind in the Willows Annotated edition by Kenneth Grahame Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A delightful story for children of any age! Should have read it sooner! Only thing that could have made it better would have been reading it to a little person!
I don't remember this book.
Those characters are varied and believable. What fun to experience life as animals.
This book is a classic. I've read and re read it countless times as a child and as an adult and I bought this copy so that I could have an e version along with my precious, well battered print version.
This is one of the true classics of children's literature, and a must read.
Do people still read to their children or even encourage them them to read anything other than Harry Potter and such? If they don't, shame on them.
This is a book that should be read by anyone who wants to see how fine children's, no matter how old, can be so entertaining.
Wind in the Willows can be read by readers on the fifth grade level and above. However I have found that even very young children love listening to the stories. It is said that children who are read to become better readers themselves. This is a wonderful opportunity do doe this, as it is as much fun to read aloud as it is for children to listen.
This is still one of the best and most entertaining of children's stories, even for those of us who are long past childhood. I first read this book as a college student, enjoying a break from more rigorous works of fiction required for literature classes. Now, more than 30 years later, it is still captivating. It's a simple tale told well, with plenty of excitement and worthy values, like friendship, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Well worth the read, and still a refreshing break from the daily stresses of life.
